Eligibility criteria:

LAW degree (LLB):

Bachelor of Law (LLB) is a legal term. Due to the traditional Latin qualification “Legum Baccalaures,” the LLB degree is pronounced LLB. Law Graduate Assessment Test:

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) administers the Law GAT test. This test is mandatory for law graduates (LLB) to enroll as an Advocate in Pakistan and their passing mark is 50. The purpose of the assessment test is to ensure that a law graduate desiring to enter the legal profession is properly scrutinized and evaluated, so that only competent individuals with the essential basic legal knowledge may enter the legal profession and to become Lawyer in Pakistan.

As a result, a law graduate can only apply to a Bar Council for enrolment as an Advocate if he or she passes an assessment test administered by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, which has been authorized by the PBC, in accordance with the aforementioned Order of the Honorable Supreme Court and Section 26 (cc) of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973 and the PBC rules.

Bar council license:

After passing the GAT student has to apply for a provincial bar council license to become professional Lawyer in Pakistan. In starting the bar council issued a license of lower/district court by which advocate practices in lower courts . After completion of successful practice, the candidate is issued a license from the high court bar association.  a minimum of 10 years of practice is required to get eligibility to handle supreme court cases in Pakistan.

Advocate High Court:

The second level, Advocate High Court, is qualified to practice in Pakistan’s High Courts and lower levels. After successfully completing two years of practice in the lower courts, a license to practice in the High Courts may be acquired by application, which is then assessed by a panel of High Court Judges led by the respective province Chief Justices and the relevant provincial Bar Council. After all prerequisites have been met successfully, the majority of applications are approved.

Advocate Supreme Court:

The third level of court is Advocate Supreme Court. An application for admission as a Supreme Court advocate may be submitted to the Pakistan Bar Council upon successful completion of seven years of practice in the High Courts. This application is then assessed by a panel of Supreme Court judges led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan. After the condition has been met successfully, more than half of the applications are approved. A candidate may reapply in the next judicial year even if their first application is denied.

Senior Advocate Supreme Court:

The Senior Advocate Supreme Court is the top tier. It is the equivalent of a Queen’s Counsel in the United Kingdom in Pakistan. An application to become a senior advocate Supreme Court may be made to a panel of Supreme Court judges led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan after fifteen years of Supreme Court practice. Only a small percentage of applicants are approved, and even fewer people are invited. On being appointed to the position of Attorney General of Pakistan, attorneys general are invited by the Supreme Court.
